15 Fun Family Games to Play at Home

We’ve been trying as a family to turn off screens and devices more and more. In fact, our new rule is no television or screens (computers, phones) after 6pm Monday – Friday which means I’m always looking for fun ideas for activities to get us to spend quality time together. Sure, we love reading, taking family walks, sitting outside by the fire, or shooting hoops but the weather isn’t always ideal for some of those outdoor and physical activities.

And who doesn’t love a good family game night without having to buy any board games or materials? Me!

Don’t worry, these games don’t require a lot of prep work or purchasing supplies. Easy prep and hassle free is the name of the game!

Most of these games you might need to print off a piece of paper or two, and grab a few pencils, but that’s it. Bring your creative minds and let’s have some fun!

1 – Guess The Ingredients

Can you guess what’s cooking in the kitchen?

This is a hilarious activity that may have you laughing, gagging and plugging your nose all within the hour.

Break your group into teams of 1 – 2 depending on your family size and get to work in the kitchen. The goal is to use up to 5 ingredients and do a blind taste-test, trying to name all the ingredients used. You’ve been warned, this may taste great, or it may taste terrible.

Groups get one point for each correctly guessed ingredient and chefs have three minutes to prepare their unique concoctions before sharing the final creation… or abomination. Who knew maple syrup mixed with pickle juice and lemon could have such distinguished tastes?!?

The team with the most points after a few rounds (the number of rounds are up to you) wins.

2 – The Sentence Game

This is a group game with 8-9 people to really mix it up and work, but a smaller group of 5 – 6 with a few taking multiple turns can work too! It really gets the creative juices flowing and is a combination of Pictionary and Telephone with hilarious results that may have you crying from laughing so hard.

How it’s played:

  • Each person receives a copy of the paper and fills out the first line with a statement about themselves.
  • The paper gets passed to the left and the next person has to draw a picture to match the statement.
  • The top top statement gets folded over and the next person has to make a statement based on the picture alone.
  • This continues on and on until all the lines are filled going back and forth between writing and drawing.

This DIY Printable Sattergories Game is super cute and easy to prepare – all you have to do is print and grab a few pens for however many players there are.

8- Who is Telling the Truth?

This is a super funny storytelling game, where the truth may not be all that clear once you start playing! Will you be able to tell who is lying and who is telling the truth? It’s really easy to set-up and play with players coming up with silly statements that may or may not be the truth.
