Fun & Easy Elf on the Shelf Ideas and Printables in One Place
My three kids absolutely their Elf on the Shelf.
But, I have certain feelings about Mr. Elf.
See, in our house we don’t follow the traditional Elf on the Shelf premise. Our little guy (Sparkles is what the kids named him) is not the eyes and ears for Santa and does not report naughty behavior.
One thing I don’t do, is threaten my kids that Sparkles is watching them and they best watch their behavior or Santa may get a bad report from the day.
Why do we do it this way?
Our Elf on the Shelf here for a good time… a really fun time.
He is a fun tradition at Christmas, and that’s it (plus, I’m not making empty threats to withhold presents. It’s just not happening…)
He gives the kids a glimpse of his rambunctious and sometimes naughty behavior from the night before while they sleep when they come running down the stairs to find him every morning, and sometimes he even leaves little notes of encouragement with his “caught you being good” notes.
Some days he plays hide and seek, or will take and hide things of the kids for them to find.
Other mornings, he’s left riddles or funny messages on his letter board.
And then, he’ll help them count down the days until Christmas morning arrives.
Needless to say, our Elf on the Shelf plays a lot of roles and is a big part of our December Christmas traditions, but he’s all fun and nothing more.
I want to share all our fun resources for you to go the extra mile this year with your Elf, and build fun traditions with him, or her, as well.
