15 Healthy Summer Snacks for Kids

I’m always looking for new, healthy and delicious snacks to fill my three children’s ravenous appetites. Staying healthy and feeling good with good-for-you snacks whether for after-school or during the summer when they tend to eat more than any other time of year is really important to me.

These are 15 of our favorite snacks I pull out in the summer and especially when they’re in season! I hope you enjoy our family’s favorite healthy snacks at your home, too.

Charcuterie Boards – I love a good charcuterie board to give everyone a little of what they like. Load up a board (or a cute shape like these fish boards) with cheese, crackers, pepperoni or salami, fruit, nuts, dried fruit and whatever else you have in your fridge and pantry!

Apple Nachos with Caramel Drizzle – This summer snack is sweet and tastes a little like dessert, but can be loaded with healthy toppings such as peanut butter, cinnamon, raisins, dried cranberries, nuts, mini- marshmallows, blueberries and anything else your family craves!

7 Layer Bean Dip Cups – These are great to get a variety of protein, fiber, vegetables and and flavor into your kids and hit the spot mid-afternoon pre or post-pool time!

Baked Apple Chips – If you have kiddos who love a good crunch, try making your own baked apple chips. I like to sprinkle with cinnamon before baking to sweeten them a little (and cinnamon is great for your health!)

Pineapple Yogurt Parfaits These can be great for morning, snacks or dessert at the end of the day! I like to mix a little vanilla protein powder in our parfaits before topping them with delicious fruit. If you don’t have pineapple yogurt, you can substitute for vanilla or the flavor of your choice!

Fruit Pizza – Pizza comes in all shapes, sizes and flavors! This fruit pizza base can be substituted with your favorite cookie (chocolate chip, oatmeal, peanut butter, sugar cookies) and then beautifully decorated with colorful fruit toppings. It almost looks too good to eat… almost.

Individual Veggies & Dip Cups – I love individual cups for everything so the kids are responsible for their own snacks and can also take them outside to eat or sit on the front steps together while munching. You can also make a bunch in advance so they’re really easy to grab out of the fridge, especially if you have extra kiddos who stop by from the neighborhood.

Frozen Yogurt Popsicle Squeezes – Now you can create your own healthy combination of fruit freezer squeeze pops and maybe sneak a little protein powder or veggies in there too! These frozen ice pouches will do the job just fine! The next time you blend up a smoothie and have leftovers, store it in an ice pouch and you’ll be set for a hot day treat!

Fruit Kabobs – With an assortment of your family’s favorite fruit, line them up on kabobs for a colorful and delicious summer snack.

Strawberry Blueberry Frozen Yogurt Bark – Not only does this look great (and perfect for 4th of July’s color scheme) but hits the perfect spot for sweetness, texture and temperature on a hot summer day.

String a Snack Necklace – This is a creative idea for trips to the pool, park, zoo or nature walk with the kids. Have them sit down with a variety of stringable food items and build a snack necklace they’ll enjoy munching on while in the car or on the go!

Pretzel Fishing Rods – This was too cute not to share and while I don’t love the kids “snacking” on candy, this is too adorable not to share. Also great for a birthday party or themed event such as 4th of July.

Watermelon Pops – Simply add a popsicle stick to cut slices of watermelon for a mess-free summer snack.

Sour Worm Popsicles – This might be one of those slightly unhealthier options, but it’s a fun afternoon treat where you can make your own popsicles with smoothies or frozen yogurt and add in sour (or regular) gummy worst for the perfect snack.

Watermelon Slushie – Simply add frozen watermelon to lemonade and ice for a juicy drink!
